Bonnie Schneider

Partly due to my graduation from the Bachelor of Music Program at Boston University in 1963, as well as being an educator (Brown University 1970-75) as well as having observed the liberal arts curriculum in person (Brown University) and believe that educational programs should incorporate the study of art with other disciplines. This is not a surprise since an ethnomusicologist holding a PhD as well as an MA from UCLA is keen on the arts. The ethnomusicology program that I joined in UC Berkeley (from 1975-1976) is a good fit in a department of music at the College of Letters and Science. I enjoy pursuing multiple interests and looking at the whole image. It's an absolute pleasure to be able to impart knowledge and expertise to graduate and undergraduate students. I am a published and the author of three volumes: Music in India: the Classical Traditions; Thinking Musically as well as Music in Japan, Experiencing Cultural Expression and Music. Then I will alternate between periods of primarily academic activities and periods of administrative duties (I was Chair of the Department of Music from 1983 through 1988, and Dean of Undergraduate Advising between 1992 and 1998, as well as Chair of the College of Letters and Science Deans 1994-98; Chair of the Group of Asian Studies from 1999, and I am now the Chair of Department of Music).
